Selvedge Spring Fair 22nd, 23rd /Mar 2013

Koi's kitchen participated in the Selvedge Magazine Spring Fair as a stall holder for the third time. We also had a stall last year and in 2010. This time, it was held in beautiful Chelsea old town hall in King's Rd. Despite the harsh snowy weather, people showed up for the fair. Thank you for stopping by Koi's kitchen stall!
For 2013 Spring/Summer, Koi's Kitchen had printed more of pastel colours of collections. However, our characteristic, Turquoise blue prints on natural linen collections are still available on our website.
Here are some of the pictures of the day.  It was great to meet you all and we'd like to see you soon again!
The first and the last 2 photos are Koi's kitchen.
You will be able find more pictures on Selvedge Magazine facebook page.

Selvedge Spring Fair 2013

The flyer with a colourful illustration by Zandra Rhodes has arrived.
Koi's kitchen is exhibiting in the Selvedge Spring fair this year. Complementary tickets, posts and stall number has arrived.
I have hand-printed 124 cards for Selvedge goody bags but the box was stuck in the custom for a few days and it is still in the process of delivery. I guess it is too late for to be filled in the goody bags :(

Pictures from the previous Selvedge fair

It is already time for the Selvedge Spring fair 2013 this weekend but I'm posting last year's. I'm so lazy.
Here are pictures of Selvedge fair poster that Koi's kitchen were participated in the past and photos from the last year in Selvedge Spring fair. I couldn't be there as I was already back to Seoul at that time so my ex-flat mates were managing the stall for me.
More pictures are found in the Selvedge facebook page.

A farmer's food preservation workshop

@ Culture Station Seoul 284

This workshop was a part of the exhibition " Life A User's Manual" and it was organized by a cafe owner and food journalist, Suehyang Kim.
Mr. Takada is a farmer in Chiba in Japan. He grows organic vegetable in 'Doremi farm'. He showed how to make pickled vegetables in this workshop and his pickle jars were nicely exhibited like a piece of art in the same space.
After this workshop, Suehyang did a presentation about her cafe, food trips and her thoughts about food and markets. Suehyang explains that she wants to make people more opportunities to buy food from the people who actually grow the food. She also organized a food market where people can meet city farmers, young bakers and independent food makers.
As big super market chains spread all over the country, many of traditional markets has lost their customers. People drive to supermarkets and shop everything there.  Due to the supermarket invasion, great number of small grocery shops and bakeries in town have disappeared.

I hope her effort to revive the food markets will make people's life more healthy and diverse.

Takada's Preserved Vegetables

Vinegar 1 L
Water    1 L
Sugar    400 g
Salt       200 g
Dried herbs and fresh herbs

Food design at Academy of Eindhoven

I came across with Jihyun Ryou's work at Academy of Eindhoven degree show in 2009.  Her idea about food storage is developed into products with calmness and serenity.

"This project is about traditional oral knowledge which has been accumulated from experience and transmitted by mouth to mouth. Particularly focusing on the food preservation, it looks at a feasible way of bringing that knowledge into everyday life."
-from http://www.savefoodfromthefridge.com/ by Jihyun Ryou

You can find more of interesting food storage tips in her blog and her interview clip on youtube link below.
